Huey Makes it Back Home

On Sunday, October 30th, Amarillo welcomed home a Vietnam Veteran, a Huey Helicopter. Amarillo is home to this Huey. After having flown 1,802 hours with the 128th Assault Helicopter Company, the Huey 68-16179 was shipped back to Amarillo to be rebuilt at the Bell Helicopter Plant. It was retired in 2013 and sent to storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.

Under the leadership of Randall County Judge, Ernie Houdashell, and many dedicated veterans and volunteers, the Huey was located and brought back to Amarillo, painted by Bell Helicopter, and reassembled by Vietnam Veterans and other volunteers. It will now proudly stand on the grounds of TPWM as a visual reminder of the brave men and women who served in Vietnam.
